Chote Chitr & Old Bangkok

We wanted to explore Bangkok in a new light. And to us, that meant going back to the old.

@themarketgirl brought me to Chote Chitr, a family-run third generation restaurant in Old Bangkok near the Democracy Monument. We heard the restaurant has been there for almost a century, and the owner has been using the same good ol' recipes handed down by her grandfather.

It was mid-afternoon when we got there and with just five tables at the restaurant, we were glad to have the lunch crowd long gone.

So we sat back, relaxed, ordered ourselves some famed Banana Flower Salad - a delightful medly that was sweet, spicy and tangy all at once, and completed our meal with a dish of stir-fried pork with black fungus, followed by a bowl of steaming hot Tom Yum soup with fried fish slices.

Chote Chitr is located at 146 Soi Phraeng Phuton (off Thanon Tanao, near the Democracy Monument), Bangkok, Thailand.

Opens Mondays - Saturdays, 11am - 10 pm.
